How to write a one-line startup pitch

Your one-line pitch is the first thing a visitor, a search engine, or an AI assistant reads about your startup. If it is clear, people click. If it is vague, they scroll past. Here is a simple way to get it right.

The formula

[Product name] helps [who] [do what]. Add a differentiator only if there is room.

Example: "Plainbill helps freelance designers send invoices and get paid in two clicks."

Good vs. weak pitches

A quick checklist

  1. Can a stranger tell what it does in five seconds?
  2. Does it name who it is for?
  3. Did you cut hype words like "revolutionary", "best", and "game-changing"?
  4. Is it under the length limit? On Share Your Startup you have 128 characters, so put the key words first.
  5. Would you say it out loud to a friend? If it sounds odd spoken, rewrite it.

Why plain wording also helps SEO

Search engines and AI assistants quote clear factual statements far more readily than slogans. A pitch that literally says what the product is gives them a sentence they can reuse, which is exactly how people find you.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a startup one-liner be?

One sentence, ideally under 100 characters, and never longer than the platform allows. Share Your Startup caps pitches at 128 characters.

Should I include keywords in my pitch?

Yes, naturally. Use the words your customers would search for, such as "invoicing", "time tracking", or "meeting summaries", without stuffing them in.

Can I change my pitch later?

Not directly on Share Your Startup, since there are no accounts to edit from. Write it well the first time, or email info@celikovic.xyz if something needs fixing.
